Bridging Asia and the World: iFLYTEK's AI-assisted smart city system helps elderly live a more convenient life

Technological innovation was the topic of the day at this year's Boao Forum for Asia, in southern China's Hainan Province. On the sidelines of the event, CGTN's Gao Ang spoke to Doranda Doo, Senior Vice President of Chinese AI company iFLYTEK, about smart healthcare support during the pandemic, and plans for more smart programs to improve senior care.  

Doranda Doo: "I think technology should be able to help the elderly enjoy a better life. We hope to provide technological help for the elderly to deal with their physical discomfort. If an elderly person has poor eyesight, our speech synthesis function will broadcast the news. It they don't hear well, we will help transcribe the text through voice recognition. We hope to build a social security system and use technology to help the elderly live conveniently. "

Gao Ang: "So what role has iFLYTEK tech smart medical care played during the pandemic?"

Dorando Doo: "During this epidemic, we had a robot on the phone. It can make 100,000 calls an hour, helping Wuhan's 9 million people to complete virus screening. Since then, more than 30 provinces, cities and regions have used it, helping more than 80 million people. We also have a coronavirus imaging diagnosis system, forming an effective and rapid diagnosis mechanism. Our intelligent medical assistants can cover 95% of basic common diseases and help with primary diagnosis and treatment system."

Gao Ang: "From your perspective, what might be some new scenarios for the AI technology in medical field?"

Dorando Doo: "I think artificial intelligence and medical treatment will be combined in many scenarios. First of all, AI doctors will be a new driving force in enhancing our basic medical system. The second is that AI medical care will be applied in households, and each of us will have a customized AI medical assistant. And third, we have surgical robots that can do all kinds of minimally invasive surgeries, with high precision. The fourth is the exoskeleton robot, which can provide rehabilitation training."
